Wiki sez this album is art pop. That's cool with me, because I don't really know how to describe it any better. Jim O'Rourke has been putting out albums for years and years, collaborating with people like Thurston Moore, Fennesz, and Merzbow. His early recordings are really spaced out droney stuff, but the mid-range stuff (like this) tends to have more of an acoustic folk sound, but you can still hear those early tendencies. Very mellow sh!t right here.

Black Moon - Enta da Stage (1993)

I just heard about this album a few weeks ago. Very nice 90's NYC style rap, similar to Nas and Mobb Deep. Definitely an overlooked gem. These guys are hard too, they don't play around. I don't know if it's just my speakers but this album is also extremely bass-heavy. The trio consists of Buckshot, 5 Ft, and DJ Evil Dee. I don't know if that means anything to anyone out there but I've never heard of any of em. If you're a hip-hop head and you don't have this, it's certainly worth adding to your collection.

Descendents - Milo Goes To College (1982)

Sometimes there's nothing better than a good punk rock record. This is one of those records. Along with Damaged and Pink Flag, this is one of the records I think of when I think "best punk rock albums". Catchy but still abrasive and pissed off, this captures that teen-angst we all know and love so well and puts it into about 22 minutes of fast paced music. Listen to it on repeat.

James Ferraro is quite the prolific artist. Along with his solo output, he's probably most well known as being one half of the Skaters (who rule). I saw him two nights ago and now feel the need to expose folks to him. This record is like a water-damaged tape reel to an 80's B action movie. Mega cheese synths riding out on top of echo-y drum pads, endlessly droning...
The cover art here is from the LP re-release from this year. I put it up because it rules. Grab this for a weird time.

This came to my attention by way of Hipinion last year; however, I didn't actually listen to it until about a month ago. This tape is a beast, harsh distortion over demon punk riffs. The centerpiece, Golem Smoke, is an almost 9 minute wreck-fest of crushing feedback and punk aesthetic. This is not one to be taken lightly y'all! Plus it all comes in a handy package of under 20 Mb. Definitely worth jamming in the ever closer winter months.
